I called back to the Sunday Morning Riders group to see let them know I was with them in mind and spirit. They took the first ride out for breakfast this morning, and were waiting in line for a table.
My breakfast was with 12 other family members at Johnson’s Big Apple restaurant in Mesa. The food is good. With its cowboy and western motif, all the waitresses wear holsters with six-shooters. No bullets were visible!
After breakfast, I loaded the camera gear into the car and headed out to find some rustic and desert scenery. I’ve been photographing for a long time, and know all too well that a high, overhead sun on a cloudless day does not produce great photography. The light produces way too much contrast. Knowing this, I tried to work with it a little.
Yes! The Hasselblad was out of the bag! But, because it is a film camera, you’ll have to wait for me to get home to develop the film and digitize the images with the Epson scanner. So, here are a couple of the digitals taken with the Canon 1D MkII and 50mm lens.

I used the Hasselblad for similar images, but used B&W film with a red #1 filter, which will darken the sky and lighten the materials that are red.
The plan for supper is to gather at Organ Stop Pizza. It’s a family place with a little high tech organ music and entertainment. It draws a pretty good crowd and the pizza is good. The difficulty lies in finding seating for 15!
Bellies full, we retired to the house and a little down time.–DBrent
Will there be more photography tomorrow? How about a little baseball–the home opener for the Arizona Diamondbacks!

Beautiful! Several decades have passed since I’ve seen the Superstition Mnts. They’re still as intriguing as I remember them.
Glad to see Hasselblad made it out of the case. Looking forward to seeing some of the shots. (looking at life in the desert through polarized ‘eyes’)
I’m laid up for several weeks so I have ‘free’ time (paid for with a broken ankle) to read others’ blogs and ride/travel vicariously though all of you. (yes, and to write, too
Enjoy the rest of your trip and the Arizona sunshine.
Broken ankle? Oh, No! Hope it’s not too painful–both physically and emotionally. I hope you recover quickly.
I’m leaving Arizona, tomorrow, and taking a different direction home. I’m going to cut over to El Paso, and then take I-20, hoping to spend the night between Midland and Abilene. Then, through Dallas towards Memphis.
I’m taking my mom to the home opener of the Arizona Diamondbacks tonight. Today is her 80th! She’s doing great.
